Wooden boats need caring stewardship - so does the next generation of America's leadership.

On January 12th I had the honor of inaugurating the Farallon 140 for '14 Campaign for East Bay Sea Scouting.

With my humble one thousand dollars now in, this is what 139 further tokens of support will provide our community:

Five dozen young people receiving four years of excellent hands-on skills education- and getting their boat back. $140,000 will repair the 85-foot Navy Air/Sea Rescue boat Farallon and provide the $25,000 she needs every year for a marina berth and active operation until the Sea Scouting Class of 2010 graduates in 2014.

Sea Scout boat Farallon - before & after getting a $40,000 hole in her hull while at sea.

What else could $140,000 pay for today? Perhaps college for one student.. maybe a classic Studebaker to keep in your garage or most of a new Tesla Roadster- or a solidly secure future for sixty-plus youth of diverse backgrounds later teaching your grandchildren how to boat, build, row and tie knots; driving your ambulance, putting out fires- and providing the can-do leadership our country truly needs.

The wood and trade shop classes of our last generation? Thanks to insurance hikes and school cuts almost entirely gone. Active outdoor/team work learning experiences? As scarce today for kids as they are invaluable. Yet these prepared me for service in the U.S. Navy, and for building Oakland's Fairy Land and our Shadetree Artist Colony.

So friends, please visit the Sea Scout's link and throw a much needed line of [IRS tax deducible] financial support their way. Your name will sail on a Farallon 140 for '14 Campaign Donor plaque for generations to come while our contributions have an unrivaled impact.

Every dollar donated actually provides $1.10 for our Sea Scouts. The 100% volunteer staff personally cover all expenses involved getting kids to and from these programs, and there is absolutely "No Kid Left Ashore" due to a family being unable to pay- they are all in.

Are you?

Thanks,

Bob
